Itinerary Details
- Walking, Food and Beer Tour - Food lovers unite and kill three birds with one stone: We'll go on a guided Reykjavik walking tour, taste some of the most traditional Icelandic foods, and taste some of the funkiest Icelandic craft beers. Among the funky delicacies you will get to try are the fermented shark, the dried fish, the heart-warming lamb soup, the famous hot dog and more. You will learn about what kind of foods have kept the Icelandic nation alive through the ages, how we have been able to survive in the harshest of conditions how some of our most popular dishes came to be.
- Fagradallfsjall Volcano* and Blue Lagoon - We start our day with a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience with a hike to the active Fagradalsfjall volcano with our guide, Helga Bára, an Icleandic geologist. We'll stop on the way for picnic goodies (own expense), because who doesn't want to have a picnic at an active volcano?! The hike is about 1 hour each way, relativley easy, with one steep slope, and then we stay for about 1- 2 hours to enjoy the magnificent eruption. After the volcano, we'll head to Blue Lagoon, our second "once-in-a-lifetime" experience and relax in the warm waters of this natural geothermal pool. Enjoy a drink of your choice from the swim up bar, two masks, use of a robe, towel and slippers. Experience one of Iceland's natural wonders, surrounded by mountains and otherworldly lava fields. We'll return from Blue Lagoon for happy hour and a free evening. *Subject to change based on volcanic activity.
- Hveragerdi Hot River Hike - Heading in an easterly direction we leave Reykjavík and drive over Hellisheidi mountain where we pass the geothermal power plant that supplies all the capital area with electricity. Just below Hellisheidi the town of Hveragerdi (e. Geyser Garden) greets us with steaming hot springs spread around the area. We'll stop at a local bakery and load up for a picnic lunch then start our hike in Hveragerdi following the hiking path that leads us to the beautiful geothermal valley of Reykjadalur. In the valley, water from the hot springs mixes with the clear mountain springs making the temperature ideal for bathing. The valley has an amazing abundance of geothermal phenomena; mud pots, fumaroles and hot springs. After the exotic bath and exploration of these wonders of nature, we hike back down to the town of Hveragerdi.
- Golden Circle - The Golden Circle is the perfect trip to experience the power and beauty of Icelandic nature up close in person. Our private tour takes about 8 hours and brings us to some of the most famous Icelandic landmarks in a single day. You will see Gullfoss waterfall at the edge of the highlands where Hvitá glacial river plunges down 32 meters in two steps. It is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. We'll visit the world famous Geysir, which gives geysers world wide their name. And the beautiful Thingvellir National Park where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia meet.
- Tour of Choice - You can choose a tour from the following: horseback riding, glacier hiking, whale watching, highlights of the south tour (other options may be available, please ask if there's something you'd like but don't see on the list). All tours will be based on availability.
- Free Day Option: Insider Iceland Day - We'll spend the day exploring some insider spots and engage in some activities with a more "local' flair. Highilights of our day include: the an Icelandic Filmmaker’s bonkers recycled house, the Kolaportid Flea Market where you can find anything from wool sweaters and vintage military garments to fermented fish and licorice, plus plenty of second-hand books and decorative knickknacks, a stop at the Nauthólsvík Beach which makes use of geothermal heating to warm the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean, we'll end our day with the locals at the pool. Icelanders love their pools and it's a unique experience we'll enjoy as well.
